Chapter Five: Commitment

November 28, 2020 Posted by Psychtoons 12 Step Hero's Journey No Comments

5. Crossing The Threshold

The Hero is now ready to act upon his call to adventure and truly begin his quest, whether it be physical, spiritual or emotional. He may go willingly or he may be pushed, but either way he finally crosses the threshold between the world he is familiar with and that which he is not. It may be leaving home for the first time in his life or just doing something he has always been scared to do. However the threshold presents itself, this action signifies the Hero’s commitment to his journey and whatever it may have in store for him.

1 of 6 subchapters: Not Ready To Be A Hero Cuz Returns To Girl Friend

Not convinced to be a Hero he decided to go back to his girlfriend and convince her he was a great guy with a great future and practice empathy.

Having messed up his attempt he went back to Grandma to ask what his girlfriend had said and to understand communications with her better.

Grandma explains why addictions grow voids and then people will turn to their Lower Nature.

Grandmother had given him advice on relationships but he did not think about that as he went back to his girlfriend as he was still hung up on status.

2 of 6: Girl Friend Gives Him A Choice And A Challenge

Cuz is still fighting his Lower Nature, it is not always easy to change.

His girlfriend reminds him he will have to make a choice between a normal life and his addiction to fight.

His girlfriend has asked him to start with asking the kids if they want to continue to fight or if they want him to lead them to a better life. He would have to convince them all, even Larry and three close friends if they want him to change all their lives.

3 of 6: Cuz Confront The Kids About Fighting

He approached the kids, the girls wanted the fighting to stop. He asked the four boys and they were undecided. They were thinking about fighting again. But the older kids had ran leaving the boys behind to take a beating.l

Cuz decided to start the discussion he needed to hear from them first about how their dad’s fit into the city and how they are affected by Larry’s Dad. Seeing reality of their dad’s dependence on Larry’s dad they may make a better decision. The Upper Nature kids were overly optimistic and the Lower Nature kids pessimistic.

Money, what sells, is so ingrained in the kids they did not see it as control.

Larry brings the lesson to a head. The kids think their parents are all free and react for good or for money.

He owns even the Upper Nature establishments. All eight kids could see their fathers are controlled.

Cuz reviews fear and the role it plays. He does not want his little buddy to suffer.

Cuz’s Consciousness decided to look at himself. He needed to look at his thoughts.

He goes on to explain to the kids how to control fear.

4 of 6: Cuz Explains Pleasure To Kids (Can Skip if Too Many Cartoons)

He is so proud of his new found knowledge of a better brain to handle life by rewarding itself with helping. But not as easy as he thought. So he needed to be simpler. (Drop Cookies)

Larry’s heart is sparked, he wants to help BJ.

There are pleasures or goody cookies of time and money we give or get everywhere but but the choice is not about cookies alone but shaping society.

“But my Dad is a Lower Nature Guy” resinated through Cuz’s Consciousness. Larry was but a child and therefore a victim of his father and unable to do what he wants to do as he is too small.  It will take someone bigger than Larry to confront his dad. A wave of caring went through Cuz, he was experiencing Empathy, love for the the little buddy. His consciousness wanted to sit Larry in his lap and comfort him.

5 0f 6: Cuz Realizes Crime Hurts His Buddies

He told him to stay away from addictions and Lower Nature and that he, his consciousness, and Larry’s consciousness has free choices and he has his back. That placed Cuz in a new position. Would he have to pursue being a Hero? Time to talk to the kids about their philosophy.

He begins with his usual speech and the kids give their usual answers. The Good do kids versus the gang kids. But then….

What he has heard began to make more sense. This was not just him making decisions about his life but influencing decisions the kids are making. Did he want to be responsible for misguiding the lives of his little buddies. Cuz began to think about what he had heard.

No way would he want his family and friends to end up in hot water. He needed to be honest, caring, thoughtful, and do the right things for them. Was he becoming Hero material?

5 of 6: Cuz Asks The Kids If He Should Be A Hero

He tells the kids to think about it. Then tell him if they are ready that they stop crime and he will try to be a Hero?

Well, that went well. Now for the hard part, he needs to ask the kids of the the more Lower Nature part of the city.

At last we have a hero in the making. What can he do to help his little buddies get BJ back, at least for Christmas, and how can he confront Larry’s dad. He has to keep an eye and ear out to see where he can intervene, then feel empath, then think how, then do it.
